Galungan and Kuningan Day

     Galungan and Kuningan day is  Holy Days are significant sacred days for Balinese. This sacred day that falls each six months or 210 days on the Hindu’s calendar, this time being will fall on Wednesday. Hindu members celebrate Galungan as anniversary of dharma’s victory against adharma, the goodness victory on evilness. On Galungan day, a merry nuance will tinge in Bali Penjor, a bamboo pole decorated with yellowish coconut leaf, rice and fruits, set on in front of the house and street border.

     Penjor symbolizes the mountain, holiness, fertility and prosperity. Penjor is set as a grateful sign to God who contributes life and prosperity existence resources. Besides its religious aspect, Penjor is also spouts the esthetic aspect. Penjor setting on the street border on Galungan day make Bali’s nuance.  Before, Penjor was only set at the time of Galungan nadi, which is Galungan that falls on the full moon.  Now, Penjor is set on each Galungan day, because Galungan is a special day.

The day before Galungan, which is Tuesday is named Penampahan or Nampah day.  Nampah means slaughtering the animal, usually pork and small animals such as chicken and ducks. The slaughtering activity is carried out in-groups of about 20 persons or more, or individually at their own homes. This meat, besides being a sacrific to God, can also be consumed at parties or enjoyed with relatives and family. People who don’t slaughter animals, can buy meat for Galungan preparation. On Galungan the Balinese Hindu offers the offering at the family temple, Pura Desa ( Village Temple ), and other great temple in Bali, the praying execution held sacredly.

     The next morning is called Umanis Galungan, when Hindu members visit their relatives or relax at tourist places. Children’s entertainment centers are usually crowded on Umanis Galungan day, full with children wearing their new costumes, as a part of Holy day’s cheerfulness. Ten days after Galungan, on Saturday Kliwon wuku Kuningan, Hindu members also celebrated another sacred day called Kuningan day, which is the series of Galungan Day. On Kuningan Day, the members also prays and travels to tourism spots, but not as crowded as Galungan.

An interesting habit on Galungan or Kuningan day, especially for village children, is watching barong dance around the village. This Barong dance is usually danced a special sites on temple or stages. However, on great day like Galungan, the dance is danced in their front of the house or small shop on the street. This dance called Ngelawang, which is regularly performed for about 5 – 10 minutes, from one place to another, and paid by the owner of the house.

     The significant point of Ngelawang is not the mount of payment and performance duration, but an entertainment that symbolizes an effort to purify the village area. Year ago ngelawang was held to purify the village territory and tranquilize villager’s feelings and spirit after a disaster took place. Ngelawang on this connotation was held in Kuta, Legian, after the bomb-blast 12 October 2002. If there are no significant incident, ngelawang becomes an entertainment and the continuation of arts tradition.

English Course #12 "Oh Love"

      " Love " one word that has so many meanings in it. Everyone need love and you don't need to buy love, because love is created from yourself, from your feeling. It's hard to describe love, no one know when the love is come, regardless of age and gender. But love can be dangerous and also can make you lose consciousness. The reality is love always make someone hurt. That is the reality I always seen. Even many peoples decided to suicide cause of love. Love is dangerous. Need parental supervision, and stay away from children under 3 years old. Trust me.

     " From the eyes down to the heart " that is the process of love, when you feel you like someone from the first look, your heart will feel that you fall in love. And your heart try to convince your mind that he/she is the real that you really want. And then you try any way to make it yours. No matter if she/he feels the same. But if it's not? That would be a trouble. And then you feel broken heart and despair. That's the fact of love. You can't force yourself to make him fall in love with you. You will feel so depressed and agitated to do crazy things. It's something usually happen when you can't do anything to make it yours. And you will hear "shaman acts of love rejected".

     Well, love is not only about you and your mate. In the other side, love also be a part of your family and your friends. Have you ever feel it? Love is not about you say and do something perfect for your mate, but you  never do it for your family or your friends. Maybe it simple but has a thousand meanings for them. The perfect life is how you can make it balance about your love to your family, your friends, your mate, your God  or even it's your pets. Because love doesn't look at anything. When you feel it you can have it but you must control it. For me love is kinda like something that you really need in this world, that could be your power, and the peoples said it the power of love?!

     You can't live alone in this world, you need someone beside you, no matter who they are. You need someone to help you solve your problem. No matter it's your friends or your family. Don't feel it by yourself. Love is beautiful when it comes to you, it can give you special feeling and a lot of fantasy. Have it and control it.

English Course #11 "Untiteld"

     Eighteen years has been past, and I'm still standing here. You and I grew up together. It was a very beautiful moment at the first. But as the time goes by it has changed. Now we are getting stronger than before, but this earth is getting older. Don't you feel the world is not friendly again? I think we has a same feeling about it. So many thing I have seen, in every media I saw that this world is being in disaster, war and all forms of criminality. Can we live in peace? Don't you comfortable with your surroundings around you? Maybe yes, if you life in a palace or luxurious housing. But in the other side, those people who live within the limits may feel differ. They are only dreaming about what the other people said peace and luxuries. Only dreaming.

     "So, what can we do now?" that is the question they always said, and my closest friend said "Nothing". Why they can said so easily, I always wonder. Do they not care? Or too busy with their affairs maybe. For me "making mistake is a lot better than not doing anything". Trust me it works. Start with surroundings around you, don't be so selfish we live together in this world. We were feeling, we were fighting when we felt it was not comfortable again. I know, no matter how indifferently they are, they still has a feeling. A feeling to do something well. No matter who you are, if you really-really care, you must be do something better for this world. 

     Now, so many act for save our environmental, from many organization tried to kept our environmental, kept our culture for our next generation. They have a big respect about it. Not because of the imagery, but more than that they really-really serious to kept our environmental. one of the action is against the construction of the Bali International park. They did demonstrations in front of the governor's office to cancel the project. The reason is because we don't have enough capacity anymore in South Bali. Come on, this world is getting narrower, don.t be so selfish that will hurt many people. 

     Try to fight against yourself, if you are really care, you will do something better for our world. And this is not only about an imagery, but as a reminder and a reflection of what you and I was feel.

English Course#10 "Final Exam"

     Finally, the class for this semester is coming to an end. We have to prepare all thing for this. But before the class end, we will have a final exam for every courses during this semester. It's very exciting and very tense. I think this exam will not be easy. It depends on how good you are to take advantage of this opportunity. Study hard, pray and the lucky factor also influential in this case. During two weeks we will have the final exam, but that's not fully everyday. Yes, because we also has a ceremony for Hinduism "Pagarwesi", so for a couple day we got a day off. 

      Actually the holiday for Pagarwesi day is not make me can fell enjoying that day, because we also has a homework for particular course. So we must smart to managing time, and keep healthy everyday, much less the weather is not too good. It's very important to have a plan for this moment when you have to manage your time for your family, friends and also your study. I hope the moment for the final exam will running well, there are no problem, no bad score and finally we can pass this semester well and happiness of course.

     But now, all I need to do is complete the homework and  I can study for the final exam. It's really hard actually, if you have to manage your mind for exam and do the homework. That it's not easy, but we don't have a choice. This is something you must take and fell. Always late to sleep and fell very tired cause this homework, this is the real life for the student in college. But sometimes I fell it's very fun, it is a heavy task but when you can clear it and have a good score for the task, your struggles will not be in vain. You can proud to yourself in the end. 

     So, make the best of this life, don't ask why. It's something unpredictable but in the end is right.

English Course#9 "New Years Eve"

     Finally, the year has been change "again", doesn't feel the time is so fast running. We enter the new year, 2013. Many thing happened in 2012, every moment we made in last year would always remember in our mind. Happiness, disappointment, Whatever that is, that would always be a part of our life. Whatever we have achieved in the past year may be a reflection of the future to be better. Hopefully you enjoy your New Year. 

     Many people made a party or hangout to the party to celebrated the new year. Some of them maybe get drunk and super hangover after the party. But, I think that is not a problem when the event like this was held. It becomes a new trends now, when we doesn't has a big event, the peoples still hang out and get drunk every saturday night. Even now, women had come to be a part of it all. It's usually happen in this modern era. Time changed everything. Believe it or not, that is the truth you will always see in your day. Sex, drugs and violence also adorn the festive of New Year's party yesterday. At least that is the news or issue I had heard. I don't know that is true or not, but possibly right. 

     Yeah whatever. As long as we can keep ourselves safety and not harms the other, that would be doesn't matter. Many places gave a special moment for this New years. such as Bali visited many travelers since a week before new year eve. And of course it has a big impact for our island. The traffic jam increased and Bali becomes full of people from any country around the world. Maybe it because Bali was one of the best destination to spend holiday and also because of the beautiful scenery and culture. We have to proud about that. 

     There are also a same tradition like last years, where the street around Kuta was closed. And the visitors have to walked. The streets are closed at every point that has been determined. So the visitors not walked to long. The streets are closed at 6 pm, before the midnight Kuta was full of peoples who wants to has a special moment in this New Years Eve. Something that might always wait, of course  the fireworks were always lively. Every hotels, bars, and places around Kuta already prepared the fireworks long before the New Year's Eve arrived. And of course that would always be the best moment for the visitors. 

     Well, whatever you do in the New Years Eve, make sure you have a good hopes this Years. Have a good plan than last years. And hopefully this years becomes better than the last years has been passed. Keep do your best, don't ever ask why. That's is something hard to predictable, but in the end is always right.

English Course#8 "X-Mass Story"

     It's a long weekend to celebrate Christmas and New years eve. It must be an unforgettable moment for all people around the world. No sadness, painful, only happiness, laugh, or joke probably. But maybe in the other side in this world still there are a sadness and painful. Such as a war and diplomacy politic around the world. We know there are so many people in this world still fell sad, sick, disappoint with their life, but I hope in this Christmas and New Years Eve they still has a passion to make their life better and believe there are still a good day one day. 

     On Christmas celebration a saw in every media that people around the world celebrated with the unique way. There are has a different way to celebrated X-Mas day. Many people in western country made a snowman outside the house and the Christmas tree inside every houses. Yeah because in their country there are a lot of snow. That is cool. I always wonder how does it feel to make a snowman and taste the snow hmmm. But different in my country or eastern country. When people celebrated Christmas in here, just only Christmas tree and hmm also a snowman but in a drawing book haha. 

     The rumor of Santa Clause coming to every houses is make me always wonder, is that a true story? Or just a fairytale to make a baby sleep in the night? But how the people knew that Santa is a fat man with white hair and with a white thick beard and also always ride a flying deer? And they also said that Santa would gave you a gift for a kind kids through your home fireplace. Instead his ass get burned? hohoho. And another one, Santa will gave you a gift inside your shock. Wow, unbelievable. So the kids must wash their shock before Santa put the gift inside the shock or Santa will mark you as a bad kids. Haha just a joke. 

     Well, whatever your religion, wherever you from, whatever your status, whoever you are, Let's enjoy this Holiday with the positive way. Don't make Santa mark you as a naughty kids, or a bad guy. And I hope in the next year in 2013 will be better than before. No war, no sadness, no painful, just the peoples live in peace each other. And Merry Christmas and New Years Eve for you all. English Course#7 "The Hardest Week"

     This week maybe is the hardest week, yes it because to many final project and homework in every courses.  Maybe this is they call "College" as a student. And you have to think about a good grade, good value, good in everything. All students maybe don't want to be defeated. They are try to defeat the other students, try to look for some opportunity to emerged as the winner. If you can't hold on, you will lose this game. And finally in the end there will only loser and chosen. So you have to think to win this competition, and set the strategy to be a winner or never.

     This strategy mean a good strategy, a reasonable strategy to win this competition, not just only to  try to push your friends in every opportunity and win with the fraudulent manner. Just don't be so selfish. I think every students has a same opportunity, but some students don't want to show off probably. They wait for a good opportunity and defeat you with different way. It's okey, at least they are not so selfish. And the important thing is also you need to keep your friendship, to keep your relationship running well with your friends. 

     Imagine if you are big person, and you always do what you want to do, without think the impact later. How do you feel? maybe you will proud with yourself. But look outside, look the other people besides you. Maybe the will think you are so selfish. No one know what they are said to you. And they will walk away from you. If I were you I prefer to be a simple person but I have a lot of friends beside me. That's more important than to be a great person without someone beside you. 

  

     With friends you can share your problem, they will give you a solution from your problem. They can helps you to be better. Or maybe they can heal your broken hearts or be the replacement probably. Life without friends is same with life without family or love. Feel so alone, feel so empty and feel you're not alive. Just simple, be who you are, do everything you can, and don't be so selfish. Make yourself feel better. Cause I want everyone to be my friends. No matter who you are. 

     

    

English Course#6 "Remedial"

      Today in our English class, we are have a remedial for students who didn't pass the midterms test a couple weeks ago. The remedial is using the E-learning system, so we have to sign in into the E-learning system and do the best so we are not remedial anymore. The remedial start at 10.30 am. I am just take the remedial for Reading section. Because I only can't pass in reading section, cause my score is not 6 before.

     Same as the previous test, we only has 30 minute for do the reading section. Thirty minutes for do the best and get the best results. At first, I think I will not has a problem to do that. But same as the previous problem. Always hard to connect to the E-learning system through the wireless connection. My lecture has started the remedial. But I'm still try to connect through the wireless. I'm try to using the Ilkom HotSpot but at first it very slow , and then I try to use my friend's wireless but also very very slow. I'm just waste my time to connect to the E-learning system.

     I'm panic, don't know what I have to do. I try to keep patience a little longer and then it work. Thank God, although it's a bit late but at least I still have opportunity to do it. So, I'm in hurry access the E-Learning system, and immediately to answer the question. From page to page I answer the question, and then until the 4th or 5th question, I lost the connection. How terrible, how can the connection lost when I'm in seriously do the test. I try to reload and try to disconnect the connection and connect again, but no results.

     So, I wait in a few minutes, and try to reload the page until I got the connection back. Yes, finally the connection is back, but time is running out. Only 10 minutes left to complete the test. I keep my concentration, try not panic, and do my best to finish the test. When it is the last question, when I'm only click the button "Submit all and Finish" my laptop is restarted. Bad luck. Immediately felt disappointed. And what I have in my mind is " I must be take the remedial again " because I'm not submit it all. Maybe my lecturer, saw I was in trouble and panic, so he told me to borrow my friend's laptop. Thanks for gave me a solution sir. And I make sure that I'm really complete the test, I access the E-learning, and open my reading section and I saw the score of my test. Can't say anything, I pass the remedial with the minimal completeness limit. Big thanks to God, I can pass this remedial. Maybe it's a "Lucky Factor". I don't know. Hhe

English Courses#1 "Introduction"

     Today at the English lesson class we are tried to use E-learning system in our college. But we got a bit trouble to accessed the internet cause the Wi-fi system doesn't work maximum. To slow because to many people use the wi-fi system so we are to slow accessed the web. And compounded by so many students who don't t brought their laptop today and make the class a bit late to started the lesson. But finally we are started the class with our lecturer laptop's. the class begun with listening section. And we had an exercise to listened a conversation about to person and we are tried to answer the question. It's our first listening section, and for me it's a bit hard to heard the conversation because the speaker spoke to fast. And make me a little bit confused about what are they talking about. I was tried to listened carefully and tried to understood what the speaker said. the situation of the class is very quite and it's very nice situation when we have a listening section. And it's very supportive situation to listened the conversation. Well, when the first conversation over, I got nothing and a bit trouble to answered the question. But our lecture decided to repeated the conversation once more. So for the second time a listened seriously and try to understood the meaning. Once again, because the speaker spoke the fast, I can't heard what are they said. But I understood some words and found the answer for the question. I tried again and again until the conversation stopped. Finally I got only two of the ten question. It's very suck. But that is better than not doing anything. Although it's not correct, at least I tried maximum. And if it's wrong I would tried to improved my English, especially in listening section. Sometimes we do something wrong but it can be an experience to us to be better and it's very important than we don't do anything. So for me, experience is the best teacher it's true.

     And after the listening section is over, our lecture gave us a home work. It's kind of speaking and also listening in english. our lecture gave us a project to do a conversation with tourist. And I think it's very delight. We are giving time for two weeks to complete this project. And I hope this project will be running well.

English Course#5 "The Lucky Factor"

     On Monday, in our English class, we don't have a class for English that day. I don't know what happened, but our class leader  said that our lecturer didn't attended the class. Actually, We have a remedial for the midterms. Yes, I'm one of the students who has remedial. I got 6.5 in Grammar and 2 point in Reading. I only remedial in Reading because the minimal point for the midterms test is 6 probably. In my class there are so many students who will has remedial. Because on Monday we don't have a class for English, so the class is move in to Friday. I'm ready for this remedial, I don't know why I can remedial but I think I'm running out of time on the moment. And a bit inconsequential for answer the question. But, as I've said, I do my best and whatever the results, I will accept it gracefully and will fix it in next opportunity. Hope God always beside me.

      Many students said that the test is a bit hard and always has a trouble with the connection and their laptop battery. But, something that make me always thinking in my mind is they are said that the test is the "lucky factor". Why they can said like that, when they are studied hard in the evening and they just said that is totally a lucky factor? Some of stupid think in your mind when you thinking that is a lucky factor. Is that really true? For me that is not totally wrong. Sometimes when you try your best but you don't got the best (success), sometimes you need the lucky factor to keep it well. But you have to remember, when you try to do something that you really-really want., Ask yourself first. Are you able to do it? And then after you find the answer, ask yourself again. What kind of plan or effort that you can do for make it real.  And include a little prayer to make it look like a fortune. 

      But, actually the important thing is your effort. How big your effort to do it and don't always wish the best. Sometimes you will got something that just enough in your life. Not more but enough or even less. And than you need word that called "grateful". Keep the effort, do your best, don't push your luck and believe in the end is right.

English Course#4 "Midterms Story"

Yesterday, it was a midterms for English Course. Very exciting for me. It's because all about honour. All students may has a good results for the midterms yesterday. But I don't know, I don't mind it. I have been try to make the best. And whatever the results, I will accept whatever the outcome. So this is my story for the midterms.

The day before the test (midterms) I don't know what I have to study. I was sat in my room, opened my notebook and tried to remember, what was my lecturer always said in the previous lesson. Oh God, it's hard to keep in my mind. Then I push myself to studied, I studied in grammar, because it's still hard to comprehend it. Why I always forget the previous lesson ? Whereas I always understand when the lecturer gave us the material. Yes, it's a bit hard, but always try to concern. Until 10.15 pm I studied for the test, my eyes already sleepy, and finally can't concern anymore. So I decided to sleep. Closed the book and put in the bag. It Easy, yes that is easy than we have to studied. Hehe. But, there are one more important thing to do. Charge the laptop. That is very important thing to do, because it was my weapon to war. If the laptop not fully charge, you will feel not comfortable, fell broken and disappointed. Trust me it work. 

And the day is come. Monday 26th, first midterms for English course.Well, I am very exciting on the moment. In the morning, before I went to the university, I was ensured all the important thing. Like laptop, charging. myself, my mind. And I pray, I wish to God, to given a bit luck for me for that day. Everything is well until the lecturer came early in the morning, in the first lesson. Of course, very confused. But it just a little mistake. And the Course still in the second lesson. And the test is prepared with all laptop is on, the wireless on, and I was lucky because I brought my charging and fell comfortable that my laptop will not dead. Ten thirty, the test is begin with used the E-learning system. A bit problem with the wireless connection, the connection is to slow. And it was a annoyed. But god not hate me. God helped me solve the problem. And finally I can solve the problem. Big thanks God. 

I was start a bit late. but no problem, because I have much time to finished the first test. Sixty minutes for the grammar test. That is the the first test in the morning before we has the reading test. Okey, for the grammar test is clear. A bit hard, but I still confidence with the results. Next the reading test, it given thirty minute to do it well. Not long enough but have to clear it. Time is running out, the test is almost over. I was hurried to do it. But finally, I can finish it. The midterms is over. Feel very relieved. I barely remembered what was the answer, a bit hard, a bit not concern but I believe the result will good. trying to cheer up myself.

Well, that's all about my story for the midterms, in English course yesterday. The important thing is you have to believe with your own answer, no matter it is correct or not, just do your best and keep pray for the best result. Although the result is not to good, at least you do it by yourself and you know your rating for yourself. No matter what, just believe yourself. And in the end is always right.

English Course#3 "Not About Money"

     Yesterday,  we didn't has a class for English. Yes, it because in our major has an event (BLCC), that's an annual event in department of computer science. BLCC is an event for student who has a good logic. And they are required in order to solve a problem logically. The event is held in our campus in Bukit Jimbaran. And participants come from elementary, junior high and high school or vocational high school. For me, BLCC is a good event, it can increase our mind in how to solve the problem and to increase our logic. So I hope the winner, does have an incredible intellect.

      

     Actually, we has a midterms yesterday, but cause in our major has an event, so maybe the midterms delayed next week. And also we has homework that should collected yesterday. That's a speaking project we has to collected to our lecturer. But for the project, our lecturer informed us to collect it in Wednesday. Okey, It's not a problem. Because We (our group) had been finish. That's not difficult to speak with a foreign tourist, actually. But, all we need is understand what are they said and answer carefully and obviously. Most of them are friendly actually. The want to say hello for us, as a local people and they are very kind overall. yeah, but sometimes there are just a little ignorant.

     For me, interact with tourists is a delightful thing. So fun, when we can communicate with them or even we can do something together. We are laugh, joke, or maybe do stupid thing together. No problem. As long as  we don't do any harm. So when I talked with them, they are said that Bali is a best destination for holiday. They enjoy in Bali and they are very respect with our culture, people and anything about Bali. But one of them said that Bali is 'cheap'. They come to Bali because everything in Bali is cheap. I felt disappointed on the moment. But that is the truth. 

     I has a friend, he is a tourist guide. And he ever said to me, that Bali is really cheap. That is true. Compared with the other countries, Bali is cheaper. So that why many foreign tourist choose Bali as their destination for holiday. I don't mind it. As long as we can live in peace, it will not be a problem. Reduce a little ego and look down for a moment. This are not for the money. They are enjoy in our island, they respect in what we have in culture, and they are give us a job. without them maybe Bali will not be nothing in the world. So, try to thinking positive.

English Course#2 "Totality in a limitation"

Today, in our English class we discussed about our blog. Our lecturer told students who hasn't send their blog address will got zero point for their first post. But that's not my problem for this morning in English class, because I already sent my blog address yesterday. So I got point for my first post but I guess I still has a mistake in my grammar.  Well, at least I had try to make the best and whatever is the result, I do it by myself and I am very satisfied with it.

After we discussed about the blog. Our lecturer gave us an exercise, two exercise using e-learning system. At first  I don't has a problem with the e-learning system, because I already joined yesterday and I knew how to use e-learning system. So I log in, and then I got a problem with the wi-fi system. The Wi-fi system is not running well, sometimes it loading too long so I must wait for a while but my friend who sat beside me, got no problem with the wireless system. I wondered why. It just wasted my time, while my lecturer already gave us the exercise and my friends already made it. So painful. But finally I can accessed the E-learning system and do the exercise that my lecturer gave to us. 

For the first exercise I got no problem to do it. Everything is under control. But I don't has much time to do the first exercise because the wireless connection  make me wait too long, so I'm in hurried to finish it. And for the results, I'm only got 4 correct answer from 8 question. that's not good. Yeah, I can understand the situation of the wireless system. It means I'm not lucky. 

And then for the second exercise,  still using the E-Learning system and it's a reading exercise. I read the text and I tried to answer the question, 1 until 3 question I already answer and then my laptop is stop breathing (the battery is empty). Oh my god what wrong with this day. whereas my laptop battery is fully charge last night. And that's is the second unlucky for this morning. I got no point for the second exercise and it's make me felt unhappy. 

If I can give an advice for our faculty, please give us a good facility to make this class running well. It just a little thing. I just want, we have a socket to charge our laptop. In my class there is only one socket and it's in front of the class. So, is not better if we have five or seven socket in our class? And It is also we use it together, for a good reason.  So learning in the class can running well.
